Networking and consultation
Advancing health professions education requires more than excellent educational programs. It depends on strong international communities in which educators, researchers and institutions learn from one another, exchange ideas and build lasting collaborations. The HPE Entrust Foundation actively promotes international networking by connecting educators across institutions, disciplines and countries. By strengthening these professional networks, the Foundation aims to foster educational innovation, support scholarly collaboration and contribute to sustainable capacity building, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
IMEX
The Foundation will provide financial support for the participation of an institution from an LMIC in the IMEX initiative (International Medical Educators Exchange). This successful collaborative project between universities has existed since 2006, and is currently coordinated by the Technical University of Dresden. Participation in IMEX involves costs for travel and accommodation for mutual site visits. During these mutual visits, faculty members spend one week at a partner institution, observing educational practice, exchanging ideas and developing long-term professional relationships.
To date IMEX has only included participating institutions from the Global North. The Foundation will contribute to these costs for an LMIC institution. This is not an open call; the Foundation, in collaboration with the Board of IMEX, determines the institution of interest.
EPA-course Alumni
The EPA-courses have served over 700 participants from over 40 countries. Many of the courses concluded with a clear participant wish to stay connected. For that reason, several times per year open online Q&A meetings are held for course alumni. For dates: see under the program of EPA courses.
Meanwhile, most of the expert course faculty members have been course participants in the past, and combined the expertise with relevant research and development. This community of 25-30 experts (not counting the many course faculty in satellite courses) is a network community in itself, that has, among other initiatives, produced an open access textbook about EPAs and entrustment decisions making.
Consultation
The Foundation actively seeks to expand networks for consultation. Given its vast database of educators with experience in health professions education domain, efforts will be made to respond for call for consultative connections.
